Family Medicaid

Medicaid (medical assistance) provides health care coverage to families who may not otherwise have access to health care. The program is designed to safeguard the health and well-being of Clermont County residents, particularly children, pregnant women, elderly, and individuals with disabilities. Coverage includes: doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, immunizations, prenatal care, vision, dental, substance abuse and mental health services.

Some adults with children may also be eligible. By keeping the community in good health, Medicaid allows individuals to remain productive members of society.

Like health care coverage, Medicaid may pay for part of the cost of visits to the doctor, hospital expenses, nursing home care and home health care. In some cases, transportation to the doctor may also be available.

Medicaid programs include Healthy Start; Healthy Families; Healthchek; Pregnancy-related services; and Aged, Blind and Disabled among others. Individuals who receive Medicare, but whose income is too high to qualify for Medicaid, may be eligible for the Medicare Premium Assistance Program.

Frequently Asked Medicaid Questions:

  1. What is Medicaid?
Medicaid is like health insurance. It provides health coverage to eligible people of all ages.
  2. How can I check the status of my case?
You can log into your Ohio Benefits account online to check the status of your application, here.
  3. If I have medical coverage through private insurance can I get Medicaid too? Should I cancel my private insurance?
Yes, you may be eligible for both your private insurance and Medicaid. Medicaid may pay what private insurance does not cover. You may be eligible for Medicaid coverage even if you have other health insurance. Because Medicaid is based on income it is a good idea to keep your private health insurance.
  4. How long can I continue to get Medicaid coverage?
There is no time limit for most Medicaid categories. You can be covered by Medicaid as long as you meet eligibility guidelines.
  5. Will Medicaid cost anything?
Though many of your healthcare costs are covered by Medicaid, individuals age 55 or older, or those permanently institutionalized regardless of age are subject to the Estate Recovery program.
  6. How do I add a newborn to my Medicaid case?
You can report your change to us at 1-844-640-6446 or email clermontcasebank3@jfs.ohio.gov. Please let us know when your baby came home, their name, sex, and data of birth.

Managed Care Plans:

In Ohio, most individuals who have Medicaid must join a managed care plan to receive their health care. Managed care plans are health insurance companies that are licensed by the Ohio Department of Insurance and have a provider agreement with the Ohio Department of Medicaid to provide coordinated health care to Medicaid beneficiaries. These managed care plans work with hospitals, doctors and other health care providers to coordinate care and to provide the health care services that are available with an Ohio Medicaid card.

Once you are approved for Medicaid, you will receive information in the mail to help you select a managed care plan. You will have the opportunity to change managed care plans during open enrollment each November.

Managed Care plans act just like regular health insurance. Once you are enrolled in a managed care plan, you should receive a new card in the mail.
